The new kennels inside the building are finished and are wonderful! There are 11 brand new kennels on concrete, with a drainage system for sanitary cleaning. Everything is new and clean. Thank you to Columbus Dog Connection..all the pups will have beds to sleep on, too. Thank you, Tom Powell for making these wonderful improvements. I would like to personally thank all of the rescues and volunteers who work so hard to get the dogs out of the Mercer County Pound. Because of your love, dedication, and hard work, Mercer County has a low euthanasia rate.

This website was created in order to help the dogs at the Mercer County Pound. In light of the recent attack on the dog warden and the Mercer County Commissioners, volunteers are attempting to work constructively to help improve the pound, through cooperation. Please note the following: Animal Control Officers pick up dogs under all sorts of conditions. They may be sick, starving, injured, and/or infested with parasites. A county dog pound is not an animal shelter or a dog rescue organization. They provide basic food and shelter. They are not required to keep animals after three days, if they are picked up as strays. Owner turn ins can be euthanized immediately. County dog wardens are not required to cooperate with animal rescues. Small facilities become over crowded, and when rescue organizations "beg" county dog wardens to hold dogs, they become even more crowded. Over crowding leads to problems, like the spread of parasite infestation, dog fights, and difficulty keeping pens clean. I have worked with the Mercer County Dog Warden for many years, and have found him to be cooperative and reasonable. Let's all work together to make positive changes.
